Points of Novelty

Compatible

The site should finally display correctly in IE6 for windows. IE5 support is strong, but has some very odd rendering issues in the comments area that I will deal with at a later time.

Functioning Form

Functioning Form contains several engaging readings on design and its role in organizations.

Edlundart

I have been watching Edulndart for several years now. He is highly creative and very methodical in his work. His conversations have been a pleasure because he struggles with the dangers a creative minds faces. Have a look at his poetry too.

Spekk

Spekk is a small label whose artists create lovely minimalist electronic music. If you enjoy this sort of music, download some of the samples and be sure to view the “Small Melodies” album.

Project 8

Project 8 is a fascinating showcase of the new technologies in macromedia flash 8. I especially love the soundscape.

The Right to Read

Rootkits? What is next…the right to read?

Instructional Design

Read a paper by Brenda Mergel breaking down the different models of instructional design. Many of the same theories are discussed in cognitive anthropology and lingusitic philosophy. The fundamental question is whether learning is a science rather than an artform.

Community Server 2.0

View the download page for Community Server 2.0 Beta 1. If you work in a windows-centric environment this application is an exciting foundation for building a community site. AJAX abounds. This is no wordpress substitute, however, as it is designed for organizations rather than individuals.

Notable Photography

Zorro meets…an angel? Very romantic, I love it. Interestingly, many of the members of DeviantArt haven’t formal training at an art school. The community as a whole is an important study in the ability for online communities to become rich learning environments.

Hit the Back Button

Visitors click links and hit the back button. If this sums up a visitor’s interaction, perhaps I need to rethink my navigation. Niggle and Sumul Shah take this principal to heart.

And the King exclaimed

Long live Lychees!

Tango

The Tango Project is an effort to bring greater visual unifaction to the linux desktop. I use both Windows and Mac OS X, but keep an eye on Gnome and KDE. View a Screenshot

RoundCube

Download Roundcube and put a smile on your face. After using this application I see little need to keep a windows-native mail client.

Newsvine

The decentralized “folksonomic” information flow has become a popular business model. This combined with a rebirth of many technologies has given way to an apparent democratization of information. Newsvine is another experiement in this new model. Interestingly, this isn’t too much different than the proposals for IndyMedia. I must question whether […]

Valerie’s Letter

I must confess that I’m very excited to see the Wachowski’s next film, “V for Vendetta.” The trailer is a good tease, but this short excerpt from the original comic series is heart-wrenching. I hope the movie captures this kind of spirit. “In 1988 there was the war, and after that there […]

Fame & Fortune

While asleep in a cave, Jon Hicks became very famous for his firefox and thunderbird logos. This is certainly something he appeared to take seriously - even going so far as to study eastern iconography for reference points. The icons remind me of the FedEx Home Deliveries sub-identity and the classic mascot. The ā€œeā€ is […]

MCMS v.Next

View information on Microsoft’s roadmap for the next version of Content Management Server. I had the opportunity to learn version 2002 from the inside out - as has my friend Dan Bowling. It was a Microsoft product, but I learned to love its approach to integrating the ASP.NET framework. Assuming you knew […]
